The right foods for the night

If the stomach is still busy digesting, it can keep you awake for a long time and affect your night's rest. The last meal should be eaten 2-3 hours before sleeping. Light meals are recommended for dinner, such as steamed vegetables or turkey breast. In addition to the foods already mentioned, which are very hearty, spicy foods should be avoided, because they also stimulate digestion too much.

Avoid alcohol

A common misconception is that alcohol improves sleep. It is true that the relaxing effect of alcohol helps you fall asleep. In fact, alcohol reduces the quality of sleep, because when alcohol is depleted, the body sometimes wakes up prematurely due to the lack of alcohol. Therefore, for a restful sleep, it is advisable to avoid even small amounts of alcohol before falling asleep.

No stimulating drinks from 16:00

From late afternoon, you should avoid drinks that can be very stimulating. These include soft drinks containing caffeine - e.g. cola, mate or energy drinks - coffee, green or black tea. Towards evening it is rather advisable to drink non-carbonated water, diluted fruit juices or herbal tea. Avoiding alcohol has already been mentioned in the previous point, but there is another reason, for example, to avoid beer, because beer stimulates bladder activity and causes further restlessness at night.

Avoid overacidification of your body

Ideally, the human body is in an acid-base balance. The diet of most people now looks like the body is overly acidified. Other factors such as stress, lack of exercise or the consumption of alcohol and nicotine can further increase the acidity of the body. Consequences of an overacidification of the body can be, among other things, nervousness, restlessness or imbalance, i.e. all conditions that prevent you from a restful night. To avoid over-acidification of your body, it is advisable to consume certain foods only in moderation. These include meat and sausages, fish, white flour and anything containing sugar. Vegetables, potatoes and non-carbonated water, among other things, counteract acidification of the body.
